Assessment needed on digital notice board

A planned digital notice board in Newtown town centre has been delayed due to coronavirus and an assessment on how it will be cleaned due to its touch screen capability.

The town council received planning approval to place the digital display in Broad Street last year. It will provide a range of interactive information about the town for visitors and residents.

However, it had been due to be erected and switched on earlier in the year. But coronavirus delayed this and now the town council needs to assess how it will be cleaned due to its touch screen capability.

"Installation was stopped during the pandemic. Advice and risk assessments will now be required for cleaning before installation can be arranged plus an estimate of ongoing cleaning costs," said Cllr Richard Williams in the minutes of a recent meeting of the council's Economic and Environment Committee.

Last month new Welcome to Newtown signs were installed at key entries into the town as part of the council's Discover Newtown campaign.
