More cycle racks and covered areas planned

More bicycle racks and covered areas could be installed in Newtown town centre if proposals are approved.

Newtown Town Council's Economy and Environment Committee has proposed using some of the council's Covid-19 Response Budget to cater for the increase in cycling with secure racks for them to be locked on in the town, as well as covered areas that could be used by local businesses and the public for social distancing, such as cafes.

The Covid-19 Response Budget has bene set up using money that had been planned for the Newtown Food Festival and arts and sports events. These would have totalled £23,000.

The council is also moving forward with its Discover Newtown project to attract visitors, shoppers and businesses to the town.
