'Discover Newtown' brand to help attract visitors

A "Discover Newtown" brand could soon be used to attract visitors to Newtown following the coronavirus pandemic.

It would form part of Newtown Town Council's attempt to re-establish Newtown as a destination for tourists and shoppers.

It is understood companies will be invited to tender to run a campaign promoting the offer Newtown has to visitors, from walks to shops, as well as the Open Newtown project.

New signs have already been erected at key entrances into Newtown with a the Town Clock used as the key image.

A tender brief is being drafted to act as the tender for the Discover Newtown brand.

The town council has increased its efforts to attract people to Newtown following the lifting of some restrictions following the coronavirus situation.

The town council is also planning to improve signage from the town's railway station into the town centre.

This is part of the council's Brilliant Basics bid. It has submitted a bid for £128,000 as part of a wider project.

Electric car charging points are also part of a scheme near the railway station which is being pushed by Transport for Wales and Open Newtown.
