24 per cent drop in local job vacancies

The number of job vacancies in the area has dropped dramatically as a result of the coronavirus situation.

Last week it emerged unemployment had risen by 156 per cent in Powys, with a significant number in Newtown.

It has also meant the number of jobs available has also dropped as companies trim back on costs.

According to research undertaken by the Institute for Employment Studies, there was a 24 per cent drop in job vacancies in the are between 15 March and 14 June to 484.

Last week a report published by Powys County Council revealed 13,100 workers had been furloughed in the county.

It also confirmed £46.6 million had been paid out to 4,020 businesses in government funding.
