New mobile phone mast could solve problems

Problems with the EE network in Newtown could be about to be improved after a planning application was submitted for a new telecoms mast near Newtown.

The planning application by MBNL at the telecoms station on Upper Dolfor Road has been submitted to Powys County Council.

MBNL is part owned by EE and Three and supports both company's 4G network. It is also involved in the delivery of 5G systems in the UK, although it is not know if the new mast will be providing 5G.

In addition, the company is involved in the shared aspects of 3G telecoms and with plans to bring more shared services into rural areas between the main mobile telephone operators, mobile phone coverage is due to be improved in the area.

The application, which will also be considered by Newtown Town Council's Economy and Environment Committee on Monday, is for the installation of a 15 metre pole with cabinets.
