Builders' merchants closes

Travis Perkins Newtown depot is among those closing as part of the company's cutbacks.

The builders merchant announced last week that it was to make 2,500 people redundant with the closure of 165 stores throughout the UK.

It is understood the company will focus on its larger locations, with general merchant sites closed.

Its site in Llanidloes Road closed last week, although the company hasn't commented.

It is understood the lockdown due to coronavirus has had a significant affect on the business as building and construction came to a standstill.
