Newtown Library is to be part of a trial offering "click and collect" books.
The library will offer members the opportunity to choose books online and then collect them, safely, from the library.
It follows the closure of libraries throughout Powys as part of the Coronavirus lockdown restrictions in March.
The council said it will also be working with the Powys Association of Voluntary Organisations and other groups to deliver books to members who do not live near the library or are in oder communities.
Welshpool and Llanidloes libraries are not part of the trial.
From 22 June, residents will be able to ask for a new collection of books via the Powys County Council website (www.powys.gov.uk/libraries), or by contacting the library service on 01597 827460 or library@powys.gov.uk Library staff will then put together selections based on the reading interests given, and these will be ready for collection from 29 June.
"The primary focus of this service is the safety of staff and residents, which is paramount during the ongoing pandemic," said a council statement.
"Library buildings will not be open for browsing or computer use. A small number of staff will be making up collections at just six distribution sites across the county, to reduce opportunities for any spread of the virus, and collections will be quarantined for 72 hours before they are collected.
"Readers are also advised to quarantine books again for a further 72 hours once received, and to wash hands before and after reading.
"The library service will be constantly reviewing the needs of our communities through feedback and looking at the development of safe ways to meet those needs, alongside other library authorities across Wales.
"The service is currently involved in a small project trialling the loan of digital equipment to those in greatest need and will be looking at ways to develop this scheme to support residents."
Anyone who wishes to volunteer to help to deliver library books to your local area is urged to register as a volunteer with PAVO https://www.pavo.org.uk/help-for-people/volunteering.html
Community response support groups that would like to help to deliver this service across Powys are urged to contact the library service on library@powys.gov.uk or 01597 827460 to discuss further.
Councillor Rachel Powell, Cabinet Member for Libraries said: “The safest way of getting new library books remains the same – go online if you can and use our Borrowbox app, which is available 24/7.
"However, recognising that not everyone can access online resources, that reading is a positive way to support people’s well-being, and that the Welsh Government has asked local authorities to plan how best to offer safe library services, we are pleased to be able to launch a ‘Call and Collect’ service for our residents.
“Powys County Council takes the health of our staff and our readers very seriously, so we would very much appreciate people’s co-operation as we trial this new approach, to ensure the safety of everyone involved.”
