Carno Station could open in four years

A new station could be built in Carno in four years time - more than 50 years after the last one closed.

A campaign has continued for more than 20 years to get a station re-opened at Carno on the Cambrian Railway Line.

In the past it was said that adding a station would reduce train times along the line.

However, with increased passenger numbers on the railway line in recent years and an increase to an hourly service, the Carno Station Action Group successfully persuaded the Welsh Government to reconsider it.

Now, it has emerged a letter has been sent from Transport Minister Ken Skates to the the UK Transport Minister asking for funding for the station and others in Wales.

The letter said: "They will make a major contribution to improved rail connectivity, supercharge our post Covid19 recovery, and develop our public transport for the future. Our new station openings will be key to Building Back Better.”

The original station was closed in the 1960s and became part of the then international headquarters of Laura Ashley before it closed.

The Welsh Government would build a new station at another point in the village.
