Ten bird nests have been deliberately destroyed by vandals in a Llanidloes woodland.

Police are to investigate the crime after the Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust reported it.

"Extremely saddened to hear about the destruction of 10 bird nests in a Llanidloes woodland, including the red-listed bird of conservation concern, the Pied Flycatcher," said a statement.

"This was a senseless act and it is hard to understand the motivation. It is also a wildlife crime and is being investigated.

"A reminder to us all that we need to be kind and look out for nature, now more than ever."
