Local business directory launched during crisis

If there ever was a time for the need and benefits of local independent businesses in Newtown it is now as they come together to help local residents.

Newtown's mayor, Cllr David Selby, said: "Newtown Businesses are vital in keeping our residents well and provided with everyday essentials."

It comes as the Newtown Network, set up last week to provide advice and information to residents during the COVID-19 situation, launched a business directory to help residents with home deliveries and access to pharmacies.

Cllr Selby added: "A business directory of local Newtown services has been produced by the Newtown Network (co-ordinating volunteer groups response to the current situation), shows most businesses adapting in innovative ways to ensure that they provide a service."

"New on-line and home delivery services are being provided, and even a free food service is available.  Most shops will now take orders over the phone, and our trusted local businesses are working hard to serve the people of the town.  I say a heartfelt thank you to all of these businesses and the staff who work in them."

"This difficult time proves to us all how important it is in a town of our size that we have local businesses as well as the large supermarkets to serve our needs.  The slogan "Shop Local" means so much more today and we must it remember it when we return to what we can term "normal life."
