Two people have been arrested after speeding off from police who then used "tactical contact" to stop them.

Police attempted to stop the Ford Fiesta while undertaking checks on people who should only be driving on essential business.

The caer sped off with the occupants throwing drugs from it near Newtown.

Newtown Roads Policing Unit said: "Engaged with 34, then decided to wheel spin off, result in tactical contact by 729. Large quantity of drugs thrown from the vehicle. All seized and two in custody. Non essential journeys and crime will not be tolerated."

In a separate incident today near Newtown another motorist claimed they had groceries in their boot for a vulnerable person.

In a Tweet, police said: "Carrying out checks in Newtown. Number of people already turned around and told to go home. Lying you have groceries in your boot for your vulnerable family member that you didn’t even know the address for."

The police and the government have stressed that people should stay at home other than for buying essential food, for a daily exercise, or if you're a key worker.
