£3 million schools improvement plan in the pipeline

17/03/2020 @ 10:29
Schools in Newtown could benefit from a planned £3 million injection into a major improvement plan by Powys County Council.

Powys County Council’s Cabinet will be asked to approve an improvement fund of £3 million so that a range of improvements to schools and pre-school settings can be carried out to ensure the facilities are fit-for-purpose.

The investment is part of the Schools Service Major Improvements Programme.

The programme will focus on improving the condition of school buildings, safeguarding, energy improvements, essential health and safety works and improving external areas to maintain education and curriculum delivery.

Cllr Phyl Davies, Cabinet Member for Education and Property, said: “The Major Improvements Programme represents a significant investment by the council to ensure that our schools and pre-school settings are safe and fit-for-purpose for our learners.

“As we start our education improvement journey, it is important that our programme is flexible and can be amended to reflect our education plans that emerge over the next 12 months.”

The report will be considered by Cabinet on Tuesday, 24 March.
