Community groups considering starting their own affordable housing schemes are due to meet in Newtown on Tuesday.

An event has been arranged to discuss opportunities for converting empty or under-used properties for residential use.

The event has been organised by the Wales Co-Operative Centre.

"A community housing enabler is a two hour workshop organised by the Wales Cooperative Centre to kick start community housing projects.

"This time we’re in Newtown Enterprise Hub with Open Newtown, Hull-based housing charity Giroscope and the Architectural Heritage Fund for talks and chat about empty homes and eco-renovation," said a statement.

Workshop hosts include:

Community led housing enablers Allan Shepherd and Casey Edwards of the Wales Co-operative Centre.

Jeremy Thorpe of Share Energy Cooperative and Open Newtown, who would like to create a community led renovation project in Newtown.

Martin Newman of Giroscope, a community led empty homes charity working in Hull for over thirty years.

Adam Hitchings of community support agency, the Architectural Heritage Fund.

Chris Laughton of the Solar Design Company, who will talk about some of the technical issues involved in renovation.

There will be time for questions and networking. Snacks and refreshments provided.
