Residents demand traffic calming measures

04/03/2020 @ 07:35
A campaign has been launched to slash traffic speeds in Llanllwchaiarn and demanding traffic calming measures.

Local residents in the community have launched the campaign to introduce measures along the B4568 along Canal Road into Newtown.

Resident Jackie Davies has launched the campaign. A petition has been set up as part of it.

A community meeting will be held next week at which local councillors have been invited to meet residents.

"The campaign is organised by Jackie Davies who has set the whole project up with the help and guidance of local people who see and fear the daily dangers crossing this fast and dangerous road," said a statement.

Jackie said: "Enough is enough. This road has poor visibility, with speeding through traffic, no solid pavements for the public to cross over into just mud tracks.

"Everyone living in this village and visiting it has to cross the road to no pathway, the council need to re-look at what they say it's adequate to control the traffic and see it hasn't worked.

"The whole stretch of this road is a dangerous place to walk by. At the moment it's been cats and wildlife that have been killed. After visiting and speaking to locals it is only a matter of time before it's a person.

"I have invited all local councillors from Newtown to a meeting next week to discuss a plan of action, as this is a serious issue that needs a safe solution."
