The hearing went ahead in his absence and was told that when he was approached by a police Inspector he told him he was a postman, before passing his wallet to another person. He later said he was a PCSO.
When it was realised he was a serving police officer he was referred to Dyfed Powys Police's professional standards department.
At the hearing, Chief Constable Mark Collins said the officer's behaviour meant dismissal "would have been warranted."
He was placed on the police barred list for five years.
