Mayor asks for pedestrian safety work to begin

03/03/2020 @ 10:27
Newtown's Mayor, Cllr David Selby, is to ask Powys County Council to confirm that work to improve the safety of pedestrians and cyclists along Llanidloes Road will begin soon.

He has sought confirmation that the road has now been de-trunked following the opening of the Newtown bypass last year.

The road was the main A483 through Newtown but work de-trunking it is a formal process that takes time and he will ask if this has now happened.

A response is expected at a meeting of the full Powys County Council on Thursday.

His question to the Portfolio Holder for Environment, said: "Can the Portfolio Holder confirm that the former main road through Newtown (A483)has now been officially de-trunked, and therefore confirm what works are now planned on Llanidloes Road to improve the road surface and safety for pedestrians and cyclists?"

The county council is planning to make a range of routes more accessible for pedestrians and cyclists throughout the town following the de-trunking.

It has received money from the Welsh Government to improve such routes, including a new bridge over the River Severn between Canal Road and Pool Road.
