Welsh Heritage Quilters Exhibition details revealed

Plans for this year's annual Welsh Heritage Quilters Exhibition in Llanidloes have been revealed.

The annual exhibition attracts hundreds of people to the town. It will take place between 4-18 April at the Minerva Arts Centre between 10am and 4pm daily. Entry is free.

"This year our exhibition is called 20:20 Visions. We have been working on several themes inspired by this idea. The themes range from traditional wholecloth designs to the Jazz Age, and Sashiko," said Ann Edwards.

"There will be a varied range of exhibits, both large and small and some will be in response to a suggested theme.

"One of these is 'Long and Lean', where members were asked to make a wall hanging of a specific size and using a shape and colour pulled at random from a 'lucky dip' – The results are amazing."

Other themes include:

The Roaring Twenties - for this we shall have a 'Speak-easy' display – Champagne and bubbles!

The 'Field of the Cloth of Gold' - this year is the 500th anniversary of a meeting between King Henry VIII of England and King Francis 1 of France to increase their bond of friendship. Each king tried to outshine the other, with dazzling tents and clothes, huge feasts, music, jousting and games. The tents and the costumes displayed so much cloth of gold that the site of the meeting was named after it. For our display we shall have a suit of armour, quilts on the theme and related items.

Once again Doughty's of Hereford will be bringing a range of their pre-cut fabrics to sell. There will also be stalls from other traders.

There will be demonstrations by members of the group throughout the exhibition including, on Saturday 11th April, a Sunbonnet Sue drop-in session for visitors to try their hand at this popular design.

Welsh Heritage Quilters meets every Wednesday afternoon from 2-4pm in The Minerva Arts Centre, Llanidloes.

Ann said: "Our members range from complete beginners to those with many years experience in patchwork and quilting. Our afternoons often include demonstrations from members as well as visiting speakers but sometimes we just meet to sew, chat and share a cup of tea

"We are always happy to help each other, swapping ideas and sharing techniques. If you would like to join the group you can be sure of a warm welcome."
