Bands to raise money for annual contest

Newtown Silver Band and the North Powys Youth Band will be raising money next Saturday with a sponsored blow.

They are raising funds for the annual Newtown March and Open Air Contest which will take place later this year on Sunday, 14 June. The competition, currently in its ninth year, attracted eleven bands from all over Wales and the Midlands last year and was televised on S4C.

"Raising money to run the event is an increasing challenge for the committee and it is hoped that a sponsored blow will help to boost much needed funds," said silver band chairman, David Evans.

Members of the public are invited to call in at the Bandroom, adjacent to Newtown Bus Park, to listen to the following musical groups performing on Saturday.

North Powys Youth Band 10.00 – 11.30

Newtown Training Band 11.30 – 13.00

Newtown Silver Band 13.00 – 14.30

"A warm welcome awaits you and refreshments will be provided. Please come along and support your local bands," added Mr Evans.
