Heavy rain and high winds to hit the area

Heavy ran followed by high winds will batter Newtown and the surrounding area today and throughout the weekend, prompting a warning for more floods and travelling disruption.

The Met Office issued a Yellow warning for heavy rain until Saturday morning with another Yellow alert for high winds throughout Saturday.

It follows more than two weeks of storms that have caused widespread disruption, including road closures, properties flooded and rail cancellations.

This week, Montgomeryshire AM, Russell George, urged action of the the water levels being kept at Llyn Clywdog and Lake Vyrnwy. He wants better management so that when storm do hit the area there is a risk of less flooding along the River Severn.

Transport for Wales and Network Rail have already warned of possible disruption to services along the Cambrian Railway and the emergency services have urged people to only travel if necessary over the weekend.
