The annual concert of Newtown and District Male Voice Choir will take place in April and tickets have gone on sale this week.

The event will take place at The Hafren in Newtown on Saturday, 25 April and the choir will be joined by soprano Shân Cothi and tenor Rhodri Prys Jones, both of whom will be accompanied by Jeffrey Howard.

"Shân Cothi is a versatile performer in both classical and musical theatre repertoire. She began her career as a music teacher, but winning the Blue Riband for the best classical soloist at the National Eisteddfod of Wales in 1995 prompted her to become a professional singer," said Jonathan Davies of the male voice choir.

"Since then, she has performed in several musicals, and is much in demand as a soloist, regularly performing in concerts and events across Wales. She is also a well-known face on Welsh television, and presents a daily weekly morning programme ‘Bore Cothi’ on Radio Cymru."

Originally from Llanfyllin, Rhodri Prys Jones studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and is now embarking on a career as an opera singer, making his company debut for Opera North this season. He is also a popular concert artist, regularly performing across Wales and beyond.

The choir will be conducted by Musical Director Sarah Astley-Davies and accompanied by Greg Jenkins, and they will also be joined by Geraint Peate as compere for the evening.

Tickets for the concert are £15 each and are available by going to the Hafren website www.thehafren.co.uk/ or by telephoning 01686 614555 or email boxoffice@thehafren.co.uk.
