The A483 road between Newtown and Welshpool was closed early today due to water near Garthmyl, while flooding at Caerhowel also made it impossible to reach Montgomery, causing traffic problems on minor roads.

Police and emergency services have urged people not to travel today unless necessary.

Heavy rain is forecast for the next 48 hours meaning more flooding is expected in the Severn Valley.

MontgomeryPrimary School has not opened today, along with Caereinion High School.

A number of schools in Welshpool and the surrounding area have also closed.

Emergency services have been called to numerous flooding incidents in the area.

Water is also high on the River Severn at Llandinam and Caersws where it burst its banks again over the weekend.
