Mayor visits group keeping town's myths and legends alive

Old myths and stories about Newtown are being kept alive by a group of children and adults in the town.

The Mayor of Newtown, Cllr David Selby, visited them yesterday to see what they have been up to and to hear some of the stories.

"This group, part supported by a Newtown Town Council grant, is keeping alive old myths and stories in the area, adding to the ancient craft of story-telling that is in danger of being lost," said Cllr Selby.

The Myth Stories organisation works with community groups preserving the art of story- telling and collecting stories that date from centuries ago.

"In this picture, Verity and Grace told us the story of Mac the Packman. I can't spoil the ending. But all did not go well for Mac when he visited Wtra Wen Inn near Llanfair," added Cllr

"Thanks for the story and it was good to see the obvious fun being had by the group."
