News that Monty Python star Terry Jones has died will affect many people in Montgomeryshire, particularly Llanidloes where he had a home.

The TV star, comedian and writer died on Tuesday evening after suffering a long battle with a rare form of dementia.

Mr Jones had a house near Llanidloes in the Dylife area and would spend time in the market town, as well as the coast.

He was once reported in a national newspaper for excelling the famous Hamers pork pies which were made by one of the town's then butcher's Hamers, which also owned the nearby Dolwen abattoir at the time.

He was a star of the famous comedy group Monty Python stars John Cleese, Michael Palin, Graham Chapman and Terry Gilliam, who rose to fame on the BBC and produced several films, including The Life of Brian.

He was born in North Wales and died at his main home in London.
