Formal process begins for schools merger

Statutory notices have been published to merge two Newtown schools.
The notices, published by Powys County Council, will be open until Monday, 10 February, allowing anyone object to the merger of Ladywell Green Infants School and Hafren CP School.
Earlier this month, Powys County Council’s Cabinet approved plans to amalgamate the schools. It followed a consultation last year.
The current proposal is that the new school opens in September 2021 on the existing school site.
The new school would cater for pupils from the ages of 4-11. Currently, the infant school has 94 pupils and there are 145 pupils in the junior school.

The Objection Period will end on the Monday, February 10, 2020.
