Bridge checks on bypass

Newtown bypass was closed today to allow engineers to check bridges along the road.

It was part of a standard procedure prior to the roads over the bridges, which are principally B roads, to be checked before responsibility for the roads over the bridge is handed to Powys County Council.

The bypass road, which forms the A483, is a trunk road and is maintained by the Welsh Government.

The main road through Newtown, including Pool Road, New Road, Dolfor Road and Llanidloes Road, are also being handed to the county council after being de-trunked.
