Concorde and imaging the moon are the subject of two talks at the next meeting of Newtown Astronomy Society.
The society will meet at 7pm on Saturday (11 January) to hear from Carolyn Alexander and Rob Davies on the subjects.
“Concorde, Flying at the Edge of Space, is a brief history of Concorde: design, statistics, and general information about this iconic aircraft, including a timeline and the origins of supersonic passenger flight,” said Les Fry of the society.
“There will be a few anecdotes, and what it was like to fly at twice the speed of sound. The talk also links aspects of Concorde with space and how Carolyn personally got interested in astronomy.
“Then with Rob’s guidance, discover just how easy it is to image our neighbour in space the Moon, with the simplest of equipment ranging from basic camera phones to modest webcams.”
The talks take place at The Crypt in Newtown Catholic Church, Newtown. Visitor fees are £2.50, with membership for all meetings at £20 per year.
The evening will end with Dr Tony Cook’s sky update.
