Festive shoeboxes donated to local elderly and vulnerable

Vulnerable and elderly residents in Newtown and throughout the area have received festive shoeboxes as part of an appeal by a local care agency.

Staff at Abacare in Newtown put out a call to the people of Wales for items those in their care need at this time of year and received lots of donations in response.

Jane Jones, Branch Manager, said: “We have been running our shoebox appeal for five years now and it has got bigger and better every year.

"We received a staggering number of items, which we put together into boxes for our service users and we delivered them to those in need just before Christmas, so they had a parcel to open on the day.

“They are extremely grateful as many of the boxes contain items they’re unable to go out and get easily such as food items, hats, scarves, gloves, toiletries and more.

“The people of Wales have shown us how kind-hearted and generous they are and we can’t thank them enough. We’d also like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to Quartix, who we share a building with, as they donated lots of items for the boxes.”

Abacare operates a professional Care Management Team that is committed to providing high quality care to individuals in their own homes.

The large team of trained, specialist, care workers provide positive based outcomes and person-centred care to people throughout Wales.

Abacare’s core values, instilled into every staff member, include ‘make us proud’, ‘focus on our service users’ wellbeing’, ‘communicate, listen well and speak with respect’, ‘be passionate, honest, caring and considerate’, ‘recruit and develop the very best’ and ‘lead by example’.

It believes it offers inspiring work for inspirational people.

Jane added: “People who took part in our shoebox appeal are the types of caring, honest, reliable and good-natured people we want working for us. They have a natural affinity to care and we would encourage them to consider taking on a position in the industry with us or even just working a few hours per week to help an elderly person in their home."
