A welcome ceremony takes place today (Saturday) for the famous Knife Angel.
The sculpture, built by the British Ironworks Centre near Oswestry, has been in major towns and cities throughout the UK as part of an anti knife crime campaign, but this is the first time it's been in Wales.
It arrived in the town yesterday, welcomed by Cllr Joy Jones, who instigated the sculpture's visit.
Today, a ceremony will take place around it at the Town Hall Grounds, next to the Oriel Davies Gallery in Back Lane.
Guests will include Dyfed Powys Police and Crime Commissioner Dafydd Llywelyn and Powys County Council Leader, Rosemarie Harris. The Mayor of Newtown, along with town and county councillors will also be present.
The event takes place at 12noon.
The Knife Angel will be in Newtown until the end of the month. It will be used to raise awareness of anti violence and crime, as well as as knife crime.
The sculpture itself was designed by artist Alfie Bradley and made of knives handed in as part of knife amnesties throughout the UK.
