Consultation on Moat Lane junction improvements

A public consultation will be held into plans to introduce a roundabout at Moat Lane, near Caersws.

The junction of the A470 with the A489 has seen a number of accidents and near misses over recent years.

Last year, Montgomeryshire AM Russell George said he was in discussions with the local community and the Welsh Government about adaptations to the junction, such as a roundabout, to increase safety and the movement of traffic.

The route is part of the A470 North to South Wales trunk road, as well as to the Midlands through Newtown along the A489.

The junction is also next to the Cambrian Railway level crossing, meaning any changes would have to be incorporated around the railway line.

"A public consultation event is being arranged by the Welsh Government for this latter scheme which could potentially include a roundabout," said Mr George this week.
