Residents and businesses in Newtown have been thanked for their generosity in donating gifts to an annual Christmas collection.

The Salvation Army has delivered 211 gift parcels and 160 food hampers to children and families in the area as part of its Christmas Toys and Tins Appeal.

Daniel Jones, Community Development Officer, said: "The Salvation Army in Newtown would like to say a huge thank you to everybody who supported this year’s Christmas Toy & Tins Appeal.

"As a result of the generous donations of toys and tins from the people of Newtown and the surrounding area, local schools, playgroups, business, churches and various other organisations and individuals, we were able to deliver 211 gift parcels and 160 Christmas food hampers to children and families in this area.

"Another huge thank you must also go to the many marvellous volunteers who gave their time to help with the creation and delivery of gift parcels and hampers."

He added: "We are sure that the donations from your viewers helped to brighten up so many lives this Christmas and on behalf of these families we would like to say thanks.

"We would also like to thank the public for their continued support of the foodbank throughout the year by donating at our main collection points at Morrison’s, Argos, Sainsbury’s in Welshpool, Trehafren Children’s Centre, Woosnam and Davies News in Llanidloes and our Charity Shop and Prayer Space on Market Street.

"Once again the staff and volunteers at the Salvation Army in Newtown thank you for your continued support for the work we jointly do to help in our community."
