Traders urge residents to shop local in 2020

Traders are urging residents to shop local as the traditional sales get underway.

Most shops re-open in Newtown today after the Christmas festivities, with many offering sales as part of the annual Boxing Day and New Year celebrations.

“We have a lot to offer in Newtown. The tradition of high street with the local service. Town centres, including Newtown, have been affected by shopping trends and we’d like to encourage as many people to come and buy their goods from us as we move in the new year,” said one trader in Broad Street.

Early next year the Newtown Business Investment District plans will get underway again. It follows Revive and Thrive pulling out of a contract to run the BID project.

A new steering group will offer a Poll as to whether to have a BID in Newtown in the summer, once a new contractor has been appointed.

One of the objectives of a BID project is to enhance the visitor and customer experience in the town centre, as well as a range of other projects to enhance the town.
