Newtown's Knit and Natter groups has won a special award for its wooden Christmas tree at the entrance to Glanhafren Market Hall.

The Mayor of Newtown, Cllr David Selby, caught up with the group yesterday at their meeting in the Methodist Church in Back Lane.

He presented them with the Judge's Special Award for creating a crocheted Christmas tree at the entrance to Glanhafren Market Hall.

"It was a special entry into the Town Council's Christmas Window competition.  Strictly the wonderful three metre high tree isn't in a window, but it is in an entrance and all the judges agreed that the tree deserved a special award. It is a stunning tree providing a colourful feature at the Market Hall."

"I also wanted to say thank you to the Knit and Natter group who raise so much money for local charities and now help run a Dementia Lunch Club at the Evangelical Church. Well done and keep up the good work."
