A series of events and celebrations could be held in Newtown to commemorate the birth of social reformer Robert Owen.

Robert Owen was born and died in Newtown and was is famous for leading the way for the cooperative movement. He ran mills in Lanarkshire and spearheaded the rights of workers which lead to reforms and the establishment of cooperative groups.

The town council's services committee has suggested commemorating 250 years since his birth with events. This will be considered by the strategy and corporate projects committee on Thursday evening.

It will then go to the full council for a decision.
