Church pews stolen in broad daylight

23/11/2019 @ 11:04
Two valuable church pews have been stolen from a church near Newtown.

The pews were stolen from the porch at St Gwynog's Church at Aberhafesp sometime on Tuesday afternoon.

The church had been trying to sell the pews to raise money.

In a Facebook post, the church said: "We have been trying to sell some pews. The 2 large pews have been sitting in the porch for several weeks.

"On Tuesday afternoon between 3.15pm and 3.30pm they were taken from the porch by persons unknown. A red 4x4 was used - one pew was tied on the roof. The vehicle headed westwards through Aberhafesp.

"We are saddened and shocked by this because any monies were going to the continued upkeep of this beautiful and important historic building.

"If anyone has seen this vehicle or believes they know where the pews have been taken or by whom, please contact the church wardens or other church members asap.

"Any information will be treated in the STRICTEST confidence."
