Housing association shortlisted for innovation award

Newtown-based Mid Wales Housing Association has been shortlisted for the CIH Welsh Housing Awards 2019 for innovation being used in homes in the town.

The Welsh Housing Awards recognises and celebrates the creativity, passion and innovation of housing organisations and individuals across the breadth of the sector in Wales. Mid Wales Housing has been shortlisted for the ‘New Ideas and Innovation’ category.

Mid Wales Housing’s application has been selected for their innovative use of advanced, intelligent technology that allows it to gain real-time information on the condition of its properties.

The association is piloting the project using Gateway technology, which provides valuable data on the temperature and humidity of its homes at 30-minute intervals via Long Range Wide Area Network (LoRaWAN) direct to its offices in Newtown.

The association’s Gateway is registered on The Things Network (TTN) - the first in Powys.

Mr Dean Marsh, ICT Officer at Mid-Wales Housing said: “Both myself and the Community Housing Team Leader have been working closely on this project.

"We are delighted to have been shortlisted for this award which recognises our use of cutting-edge technology not only to improve the service we provide but also improves the lives of our tenants”.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony this week at the ICC Wales, Newport.
