Home needed for Town Crier's portrait

The search is on for a home for the portrait of Montgomery Town Crier Susan Blower after councillors said it couldn't be hung in the Town Hall.

The portrait, by local artist Daniel Yeomans, was painted three years ago and has been exhibited at the Welsh Parliament in Cardiff.

But now a more permanent home is needed for it.

It had been hoped the painting could be mounted in the Town Hall in Montgomery, but councillors have turned that down.

Town Crier, Susan Blower, said: "It is a heavy item 6’x4’ in size. Montgomery Town Hall would have been an ideal venue but permission had been denied. Is there any location within Montgomery area who feel able to host this wonderful portrait highlighting the wonderful craft of Portrait painting and the Ancient craft of Town Crying."

It is understood The Dragon Hotel, next to the Town Hall, is considering hosting the artwork.
