Speculation on Aldi store continues

Supermarket giant Aldi will not comment on speculation that it is acquiring the Greenhous Ford site in Pool Road, but has not denied it.

Responding to MyNewtown's story that it is understood the company is purchasing the site for a store, the company said: "Aldi Stores are unable to offer a comment on this matter at the time being."

The company has been searching for a site in the town for nearly five years having failed to purchase land at St Giles Golf Club.

It is understood the company will seek planning permission to change the use of the car dealership.

Greenhous announced last month that the site had become unprofitable and it will close it next week.
