Buildings in Newtown will be lit up purple this evening (Thursday) as part of a campaign raising awareness about polio.
Newtown Rotary Club will light up Newtown Market Hall and others in the town centre, although a request to light up the town clock was turned down by the town council.
"Along with many other Rotary Clubs across the UK, we will be attempting o light up various buildings in Newtown on Thursday, 24th in purple.This is to complement the theme of Purple for Polio," said a spokesperson for the club.
"Various businesses have agreed to participate and if they cannot light up their building in purple they have agreed to have a purple theme on the day."The Newtown Market Hall will be lit internally in purple and the cafe will be having a purple theme on the day.
The Rotary Club will be establishing a presence on the day with the aid of a giant purple ladies shoe.
