27/09/2019 @ 08:26
The 140th anniversary of the opening of the Pryce Jones Royal Welsh Warehouse in Newtown is to be marked with a special ceremony next week.

The event, organised by the Heritage Hub 4 Mid Wales, will also mark 160 years since the start of mail order by Sir Pryce Pryce-Jones, one of Newtown's famous sons and entrepreneurs.

Heritage plaques are to be unveiled at the Royal Welsh Warehouse on Thursday, 3 October as part of an event open to the public.

HH4MW is a community heritage project set up to collaborate, record and preserve "Powys pioneers" such as Pryce-Jones, Laura Ashley, and the David Davies, family.

"The Heritage Hub 4 Mid Wales has invited the High Sheriff of Powys David Lloyd Peate and David Pryce-Jones the great great grandson of Sir Pryce Pryce-Jones to unveil Pryce Jones Heritage plaques sponsored by the Potter's family, the owners of Pryce Jones Royal Welsh Warehouse and Newtown Chamber of Trade who have sponsored the Pryce Jones heritage trail plaque," said Ann Evans, founder of HH4MW.

"Next Thursday marks the 160th anniversary celebration of Sir Pryce Pryce-Jones the Pioneer of modern day mail order and home shopping, and on the 3rd of October 2019 we will celebrate the 140th anniversary of the opening of Pryce Jones Royal Welsh Warehouse retail emporium.

"We are inviting the public to come along and share the lifelong legacy of Sir Pryce Pryce-Jones and to come and share archives of memories of Pryce Jones."
