Sixth form fiasco means yet another rebrand

26/09/2019 @ 09:35
A rebrand of sixth form education in the area is having to be changed after a local charity raised concerns.

Powys County Council has admitted its rebrand announced last week is being pulled and new rebrand will be launched in its place.

It's not known how much the fiasco has cost as marketing materials including brochures, leaflets and displays had been produced.

The council launched its Dyfodol Powys / Future Powys as part of a wider marketing campaign to promote sixth form offer in the county.

However, the branding will now be changed to avoid confusion with local charity Dyfodol Powys Futures.

The charity said it could harm its work because of the confusion.

The brand was launched by the then Cabinet member responsible for education, Cllr Myfanwy Alexander. She has now been moved to another Cabinet position after a motion of no confidence was due to be held yesterday at an extraordinary meeting of the council.

That was cancelled after council leader Cllr Rosemarie Harris reshuffled her Cabinet following the resignation of two other members on Monday.

Chief Executive, Dr Caroline Turner, said: “Dyfodol Powys Futures contacted the council to highlight the potential confusion between the name of their charity and the new sixth form branding.

“It was certainly not the intention of the council to cause confusion between the charity and the sixth form promotion.

“I would like to thank Dyfodol Powys Futures for bringing this to our attention. We sincerely apologise to the charity and fully acknowledge their concerns regarding the similarity.

“Arrangements are underway to re-launch the brand for Powys sixth forms as Llwybrau Dysgu Powys Learning Pathways, which will provide greater clarity and distinction between the charity and the sixth form provision.”
