Armed police in Newtown town centre

Armed police were reported to be in Newtown town centre after officers sealed off part of Shortbridge Street this evening.

Police have not commented on the incident.

There has been a large police presence in the area and the road around the junction of Market Street and Shortbridge Street has been sealed off.

Police were in the area until just before 6pm this evening.
