Mayor praises "successful" food festival

Organisers and traders at the weekend's Newtown Food Festival have been praised by the town's mayor after a successful event.

Cllr David Selby said the event had attracted a high number of visitor to the town.

He said: "The Newtown Food Festival over the weekend was a great success.  The number of visitors was high helped by the warm September sunshine, and it was wonderful to see the town smiling.

"More than one food producer told me that the Newtown Festival has a special atmosphere helped by the fact that it is on parkland in the town centre, and is designed to be a mix of community, food producers, music and children's activities.

He added: "The festival is having a successful reputation, and producers, musicians and of course public want to come back."

"On behalf of the town I want to say a big thank you to the volunteer committee aided by Town Council staff who work all year round to put the festival together. Festival 2019 will be remembered as a wonderful weekend."
