With four canoe launch points being built on the River Severn in Newtown, a local canoe club is urging people to undertake canoeing lessons.

Newtown doesn't have a canoe club, but Welshpool does, and it is offering residents the chance to undertake canoe training at an open day.

"As part of the Open Newtown plan, four launch points are to be built in the coming months along the River Severn in Newtown," said Liz Hinkley of Welshpool Canoe Club.

"Newtown has no canoe club, but Welshpool does, and in fact many of its members are already from Newtown and its surrounding area."

Free Free Have a Go sessions between 4pm and 6pm on Sunday, 15 September at The Flash Leisure Centre in Welshpool, run by Welshpool Canoe Club’s qualified coaches.

It's aimed at adults and juniors over nine years old. The club coaching season runs from October to March.
