A Newtown man who has used running to tackle his mental health problems is to host a sports quiz on Friday to raise money for MIND.

Russ Evans will host the event at The Monty Club on Friday, 9 August at 8pm.

"The charity I am raising money for is the mental health charity MIND (as well as a small donation to the Ponthafren Association). I am running the Cardiff Half Marathon in October for MIND too, and the money raised from the quiz will be added to the sponsorship donations for my run," said Russ.

"I am raising money for MIND as I myself have had to deal with mental health problems over the last 2 years, and charities like MIND are vital in helping and supporting people with mental health.

"Until October 2017, I had never ran a mile in my life, but to help tackle my mental health problems, I decided to try the couch to 5k running app, and from there in, the running bug has caught me, and from doing a 5k in Central London to doing a 10k in Birmingham last year, I am now taking on my first half marathon in Cardiff.

"I have found running to be a great release mentally and physically, and hope to raise as money as possible for this worthwhile charity."

"There will also be a prize raffle on the quiz night and a few sporting items for auction, such as family tickets to Scarlets or a Dragons game, and a snooker cue signed by players including Judd Trump, Mark Williams, and Neil Robertson."
