Attempts continue to reduce gas mains traffic congestion

31/07/2019 @ 11:58

Changes are being made to the traffic light phasing at the Dolfor Road junction following continued lengthy delays due to essential gas mains work.

Motorists and residents have complained that it has taken them up to half an hour to travel along Llanidloes Road into New Road as work on the junction near Lidl takes place as part of the mains work due to take place along Llanidloes Road, Dolfor Road and Plantation Lane this summer.

Yesterday, the mayor of Newtown and Powys county councillor David Selby said: "I have asked the Traffic Team to see if the light phases can be changed to reduce the queues. They are being monitored today and the Lidl traffic light has been removed which should reduce the delays along New Road and Llanidloes Road. This light will, however, have to be brought back at some time."

It is understood the lights are being monitored again today to ensure traffic is kept moving.
