Organisers of a successful fun day at Vaynor have been congratulated by the town's mayor, Cllr David Selby who said he hopes to see the event take place again next year, providing there's support from local people and businesses.

The event was held at Vaynor with a range of entertainment and events.

“I was delighted to assist Cllr Kelly Healy and family and other organisers in working to provide this event. We worked hard to ensure that families could have a range of activities for free.”

Among the organisations attending were police, Newtown firefighters along with one of their fire engines, RSPCA, Cats Protection League, Mid Wales Housing, The Oaks Care Home recruiting staff for their new care home, Hafren Vets, Salvation Army and Havenmore Hedgehog Rescue.

"The children had free popcorn and candy floss and were treated to a supply of free ice cream," added Cllr Selby. "Free face painting, hair braiding, and spray tattoos were also provided to local children, and they had fun on the bouncy castle and inflatable football pitch."

Local entertainer, Dai Robs sang to the crowds at lunchtime.

The highlight of the show was the Community Dog show organised by Sally Roberts of Furever Living for you.

Dogs were entered in categories such as Waggiest Tail and best fancy dress. Many local dogs were entered and prizes and rosettes donated by Medivet and Winmill Vets and others.

Newtown Evangelical Church supported the event by allowing the use of their field on Vaynor for the event and supplying refreshments.

Cllr David Selby added: “Without the support of business sponsors such as Oaks Care Home, Cell Path, Hopkins Steel, Pinks Bounces, Trehafren Stores, Funtastic Nets and Kwai Chin, this special event with free from for children and families from the local area would not have happened.

"Many people have asked whether the event will happen again next year. The answer is yes if we can have support from local businesses and local people to help organise it. Please make contact with either Kelly Healy or myself."
