Motorcycle safety clampdown set to continue this weekend

25/07/2019 @ 10:21

Police will this weekend continue a crackdown on motorcyclists and other motorists as part of a safety campaign in the area.

Newtown Police have already stepped up patrols at weekends in an attempt to reduce the number of motorbike accidents in north Powys.

It emerged that over one weekend they dealt with 50 offences of 21 speeding bikes, drink driving, no licence and no insurance on local roads.

The A483 between Newtown and Crossgates is a key area due to its popularity among motorcyclists from throughout the country.

“Our casualty reduction work continues on the A44/A483 Crossgates and Dolfor areas.

“Several marked and unmarked police units out targeting the fatal 5. Early engagement will hopefully influence the tone of riding for the rest of the day,” said one of the officers following last weekend’s campaign as part of Operation Darwen.
