Town councillors are to consider a proposal for a water refill station to be installed in the town centre, similar to those installed by other communities in the UK.
In the drive to reduce the number of plastic bottles used and wasted, towns in the country have been introducing water refill stations where people can fill their own canisters with water for free.
It is understood a proposal will be out for such a refill station in Newtown.
It will be considered after costings are made and could be included in the current year's budget.
Town councillors will consider it at their meeting on Monday evening.
