Bypass benefits help relieve holiday weekend congestion

21/07/2019 @ 11:48

The first weekend of the school summer holidays and traffic to this week's Royal Welsh Show has seen the benefits of the Newtown bypass already.

Residents and motorists can normally expect queues as far back as Abermule on the A483 at peak periods, but the new road appears to be reducing such congestion, along with traffic levels in the town centre this weekend.

The road, which was opened in February, aims to reduce the amount of traffic in the town, although early on there were suggestions that poor signage meant many motorists were still coming through the town.

This week will see additional traffic caused by visitors heading to the Royal Welsh Show and residents and others will be hoping they travel on the bypass rather than causing congestion in the town.
