Air Ambulance clarifies charity confusion

The Wales Air Ambulance, which runs a lifesaving operation from its Montgomeryshire base at Welshpool Airport, has cleared up the confusion caused by an English-based charity asking for donations in Wales.

In a statement issued, the service said there had been “some confusion around the fundraising activities of a charity called the Children’s Air Ambulance (CAA)” which also uses the name ‘The Air Ambulance Service’ (TAAS).

“We regularly receive enquiries from our supporters asking if this charity is connected to the Wales Air Ambulance,” said a spokesperson. “CAA/TAAS is an English-based registered charity and is not connected to the Wales Air Ambulance.

“Wales Air Ambulance is the only air ambulance service based in, and dedicated to, Wales. We have our own paediatric and neonatal division called the Children’s Wales Air Ambulance.”

The charity then issued the following clarification:
·      If in doubt, always check the Registered Charity Number. The Registered Charity Number for the Wales Air Ambulance is 1083645.
·      Wales Air Ambulance does not post charity bags to your home.
·      Wales Air Ambulance does not post donation request letters to your home.

Wales Air Ambulance has Lifesaving Lottery Canvassers who occasionally go door-to-door to promote the Lifesaving Lottery. Lottery sign-ups are via Direct Debit (they will never take money directly from you in your home).

The canvassers working on our behalf are identifiable by their red branded clothing and ID badge.

They follow a strict ethical code of conduct and never knock on doors after 7pm.

“We never go door-to-door asking for regular giving donations,” the spokesperson added.
